Philippine Stagers’ 4C Play closes, but its Morals lives on

QUEZON  CITY, Philippines – After running the four-act play called ‘4C’ with titles:  Fan, Romeo Loves Juliet, Judas’s Lair, and Felipa for a year, Philippine  Stagers Foundation (PSF) ended its run on Sunday, March 6, 7pm. The group made a total of four presentations for the whole day and featured the resident and  award-winning PSF actors, the likes of Kierwin Larena, Gloria Ann Nacional,  Cindy Liper, and Jordan Ladra with the direction of Aliw Awardee Vince Tañada.

PSF known for its advocacy of  discovering new talents amongst the youth by giving free theater workshops  during summer made this ‘4C’ which actually means ‘Four Contemporary’ Plays. The four acts in the said production were all written by its homegrown talents and were acted out by its prized jewels of this theater company that Tañada founded since 2007.

The first act, which was titled ‘Fan’ was written by Joseph Martin Bautista when he was still 15 years old. The said  presentation was a lighter take on sexuality struggles of an innocent boy who admires a Korean star. Vince Tañada’s play titled ‘Romeo Loves Juliet’ is no love story patterned after Shakespeare, but rather an original way of painting how humans interact and are misled in finding ‘true loves’ on the Net, particularly on social networks like facebook. The two latter acts, ‘Judas’s Lair’ written by a  Japanese PSF member Alex Dorola Yasuda and ‘Felipa’ by Patrick Adrian Libao were the serious ones that showcased the talents of Larena, Nacional, Tañada himself, Liper, and Ladra. ‘Judas’s  Lair’ tackled the sad, rotten political situation in the Philippines, which  utilized a ‘naturalism’ type of theatrical style, while ‘Felipe’, also adopted  a ‘naturalism’ approach, but with a horror twist.

Roxas, Cielito Zamora, Sienna and  Culiat High Schools were the four schools that witnessed the closing of ‘4C’,  but as the group’s vision of leaving imprints to their audiences, the morals of their plays promise to live on.

In June this year, the group will be touring its hit musical and critically-acclaimed ‘Ako si Ninoy’ to Guam, Saipan and Hawaii and they will be opening its next season in July.
