MANILA, Philippines – After the tremendous success of his past works such as ‘Masahista’, ‘Serbis’, and ‘Kinatay’ to name a few, Brillante Mendoza is making waves again abroad with his most recent work titled ‘Thy Womb’ (Sinapupunan) starring Superstar Nora Aunor; bagging three international awards in Venice, Italy recently.
This poignant film of Mendoza, set on the islands of Tawi-Tawi in Mindano, is about a wife who is having trouble giving her husband an offspring leading them to opt for a second wife who can bear a child for his husband.
Director Brillante Mendoza’s ‘Thy Womb’ is the only entry of the Philippines for the 69th Venice International Film Festival. It is among of the 18 movies vying for the coveted Golden Lion award at this prestigious film festival, which is considered as the world’s oldest festival. After its world premiere at the said event, audience gave ‘Thy Womb’ and the people behind the masterpiece a 5-minute standing ovation—acknowledging the substantiality of the aforementioned film.

So far, the film has garnered three international awards including La Navicella (Venezia Cinema Award), P. Nazareno Taddei Award (Special Mention) at the VIFF, and the Bisato D’Oro (Golden Eel) award from Premio Della Critica Indipendiente for the multi-awarded actress Nora Aunor’s acting piece.
