A Korean, a Fil-Am make it to AI’s Top 13

MANILA, Philippines – Along with Korean-born, but New York-based nonprofit organizer who works with kids, Heejun Han, 22; Philippines’ pride, the Fil-Am Jessica Sanchez, 16-year-old high school student in San Diego are among the Top 13 finalists in the ongoing American Idol Season 11 competition, have elated the nation once again. Both were included in the ones who will be competing against each other in the next weeks.

The top 13 finalists were revealed and twelve singers were sent home on Wednesday, March 1. The top five guys and top five girls were decided based on the 33 million votes earned for the past two nights. Also, each of the three judges picked one wildcard, which will form the season’s Top 13.

In Pittsburgh, Han wowed the three judges—Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler with his audition piece, a Michael Bolton’s ’How am I Supposed to Live Without You?’ On the other hand, Jessica Sanchez, belted out her powerful voice singing an Aretha Franklin’s hit ‘You Make Me Feel (Like A Natural Woman)’.

Other Top eight contenders include: Phillip Phillips, Hollie Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet, Shannon Magrane, Skylar Laine, Elise Testone, Colton Dixon, and Jermaine Jones. Then those who were in the Bottom 15 were Chase Likens, Jeremy Rosado, Brielle Von Hugel, Hallie Day, Adam Brock, Chelsea Sorrell, Baylie Brown, Aaron Marcellus, Creighton Fraker, Reed Grimm, Haley Johnson, Erika Van Pelt, Jen Hirsh, Deandre Brackensick, and Eben Franckewitz.

Jackson, Lopez and Tyler picked six singers from the Bottom 15 to sing for their lives and they were Jen Hirsh (Oh! Darling), Jeremy Rosado (I Know You Won’t), Brielle Von Hugel (Someone Like You), Deandre Brackensick (Georgia on My Mind), Erika Van Pelt (The Edge of Glory), and Reed Grimm (Use Me). Then, the three who completed the Top 13 from the Wildcard Results were Van Pelt, Rosado, and Brackensick.

Both Han and Sanchez will see action as they compete with the 11 finalists included in the Top 13 and find more challenges each week as they get closer to their dreams of becoming the next American Idol.
